Case Studies – Covanta

The Dublin Waste-to-Energy project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Dublin City Council (acting on behalf of the four Dublin Local Authorities) and Covanta, a world leader in providing sustainable waste and energy solutions, to provide a sustainable treatment of waste that cannot be reused or recycled.

With Covanta’s old radio system not performing efficiently and causing health and safety issues Covanta turned to Lynn Communications to complete an onsite survey and make recommendations on how the system could be improved to create a safe and more efficient environment for staff.

Our Solution:

Lynn Communications skilled engineers proposed a Mototrbo Capacity Plus system working alongside a distribution antenna system to provide the coverage our customer required.  The distribution antenna system allowed our engineers to strategically place antennas around the facility both indoor and outdoor to achieve 100% coverage.  While the Mototrbo Capcity Plus software handled all the communication traffic.

We decided to use the Motorola DP4401ex Atex radio for its robustness and intelligent audio which self-adjusts the volume to prevent users from missing incoming calls in noisy areas.  Also the radios increased functionality means managers and team leaders can opt to talk to selected workers or communicate with the whole group or “All Call” features.

The system used the three existing Motorola DR3000 repeater on site which saved cost on the customer.  We paired these with a combiner and three splitters.  This along with Mototrbo Capacity Plus allowed seamless conversations with over 120 Motorola Atex radios on site.

We incorporated a man down feature into the system which allowed staff to feel safe when working alone or in dangerous environments as all emergencies were routed to the 24/7 control room.

The latest radio technology and system design from Lynn Communications enables facilities and management to liaise and collaborate with each other seamlessly.
